About

Retromode reflects my fascination with retro and modernist objects of the 20th century when designers achieved a balance of form and function, creating timeless pieces which blend easily with modern interiors, adding a little joy to our lives and living spaces.

The online gallery shop is a way of sharing my enthusiasm for retro and modernist design, a few items featured in the blog posts may occasionally be for sale although most pieces are just too difficult to part with.

I hope to regularly post images of the collection along with relevant information and also some thoughts inspired by the pieces. The objects are small works of art, often telling us something of the times in which they were created and sometimes their stories are relevant to our present and perhaps our future.

I came across the following quote on ceramic-signatures.com recently:

“Tibetans have a word, drala, which means the magic of things…”

The source given was : Exhibition catalog 1987, The Hague Museum, Meiji, Japanese Art in Transition, society for Japanese Arts & Crafts, essay by Roger Keyes

At present items are posted within the UK only. Please note: there are no sales or deliveries at present.
